Monique C. Chavoya is a board member and serves as treasurer of Community Lawyers, Inc. She graduated from Smith College in 2002 and completed a masters of arts in Urban Planning at UCLA in 2006. Ms. Chavoya's interest in community development has landed her positions as a city council field representative, a fellow at the Greenlining Institute, and a project manager at the East Los Angeles Community Corporation. She currently works on affordable housing projects at McCormack Baron Salazar, Inc. Ms. Chavoya grew up in Pico Rivera, California.
Luz E. Herrera is the President and co-founder of Community Lawyers, Inc. She graduated from Stanford University in 1995 and Harvard Law School in 1999. From 2002 to 2008, she operated a private law office in Compton, California. She has clerked with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office and organized for Southwest Voter Registration Education Project. Ms. Herrera is currently an Assistant Professor of Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego after teaching at Chapman University School of Law and completing a clinical fellowship at the Legal Services Center at Harvard Law School. Ms. Herrera grew up in Whittier, California.
Wendelyn Killian joined the Community Lawyers, Inc. board in 2009 and currently serves as the board secretary. She graduated from Stanford University in 1995 and Harvard Law School in 1999. Ms. Killian has worked at the private law firms of Troop Steuber Pasich Reddick & Tobey, LLP and Katten Muchin Zavis, as well as Community Coalition, a non-profit organization that organizes African American and Latino residents to build a prosperous and healthy South Los Angeles. Currently, Ms. Killian is the Executive Director of InsideOUT Writers, a non-profit organization that recruits volunteers who teach creative writing to youth incarcerated in Los Angeles County juvenile halls. InsideOUT Writers also provides case management and mentoring support to alumni of the writing classes once they have been released to support their successful re-entry. Ms. Killian grew up in Lancaster, California.
Seth Davidson is the newest board member of Community Lawyers, Inc. Mr. Davidson is a solo practitioner in Torrance, CA, where he has a general law practice that includes bankruptcy, real estate, family law, personal injury, and some criminal defense. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and the Japanese-American Bar Association. In addition to his work with Community Lawyers, he provides low cost legal assistance to Community Legal Services in Compton, CA, and to the Legal Aid Society of Orange County. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and obtained his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992. Mr. Davidson has developed nature tourism projects across throughout the U.S. and in Japan, managed the U.S. Senate campaign of Democratic nominee Barbara Ann Radnofsky, and managed the day-to-day operations and marketing of a major asbestos law practice.
Julian Ponce is the newest board member of Community Lawyers, Inc. He graduated from Yale University and obtained a JD/MBA from UC Berkeley. Currently, Mr. Ponce is Finance and Budget Manager for Green Dot Public Schools in Los Angeles where he develops and controls budgets for 17 charter schools with over 8,000 students. Mr. Ponce is also a Certified Public Accountant and in 2006 retired as an senior administrator from the University of California. He has also specialized in taxation and financial consulting to higher education institutions. Mr. Ponce grew up in Norwalk, California.
