Community Lawyers, Inc. (CLI) is a non-profit organization that provides low- and moderate-income people access to affordable legal services and develops innovative opportunities for attorneys and law students to serve in underserved communities.  

CLI is currently accepting applications for an Interim Executive Director.  The Interim Executive Director will spend the initial 6-8 months engaging in fundraising efforts to increase CLI’s capacity to sustain a part time to full time executive director position. If successful, the Interim Executive Director will be considered for a part time or full time position.  The Interim Executive Director will also engage in limited tasks to oversee the implementation of CLI’s mission and compliance with board policies.   

This position requires an individual who is licensed to practice law in California, has a demonstrated commitment to public interest law and social justice, and is willing to work with the CLI Board to create a long-term sustainable Executive Director position. The successful candidate will be committed to high ethical standards, accountability, communication, teamwork and collaboration.  Candidate must have a proven track record in successful grant writing, fund development and experience with strategic planning processes.  Candidate must possess quality experience providing supervision and management. 

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in California
  • Public interest law experience
  • Fundraising experience
  • Supports CLI’s mission
  • Superior interpersonal skills 
  • Willingness to conduct grassroots outreach efforts 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and cultures, including legal consumers, volunteers, attorneys, judges, community members and donors
  • Ability to travel throughout Los Angeles County as needed
  • Ability to speak and write in English and Spanish is highly preferred
