When the Going Gets Tough, Community Lawyers, Inc. Keeps Giving

To help boost the economy and the spirit of local business owners and community members, CLI introduces its six-week Legal Workshops for Small Businesses

COMPTON, CA – Community Lawyers, Inc. (CLI), a non-profit organization founded in May 2005, is providing legal education, in English and Spanish, to small businesses and entrepreneurs to help them better navigate through these difficult financial times.

A series of workshops focusing on legal issues that small businesses typically confront commenced yesterday with the “Options for the Legal Formation of your Business” workshop where individuals learned about choosing an appropriate business structure and filing the necessary forms with the state. The sessions will be held each Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with it’s final presentation scheduled for May 28th.

The workshops are led by attorneys with many years of experience in areas such as corporate law, business planning and employment law.  The workshops are a result of collaboration between CLI, the Salvation Army and the United Latino Fund.  In order to offer professional guidance to those who participate, the workshops are limited to ten individuals and attendees are asked to make a donation to support further programming.

Upcoming topics include “Starting a Successful Business: Business Plan, Marketing and Financials” (May 7th), “Employee and Workers' Compensation Issues” (May 14th), “Government Permits and Navigating City Hall” (May 21st) and “Insurance Issues and Options” (May 28th).
